How to remove a green screen in 5 steps
- Add your background. Add the video or photo you want behind you as the main clip.
- Add your green screen clip as an overlay. In the PiP tab choose + Add video or photo overlay, then make it bigger with the corner handle.
- Turn on Chroma key. The default key colour works on many standard green screens straight away.
- Pick the exact colour. Press 🎯 Pick from video and click the backdrop in the preview.
- Fine-tune and export. Adjust Strength, Edge softness and Spill cleanup, scrub through to check, then export.

Filming tips for a cleaner key
- Light the backdrop evenly, separately from yourself.
- Stand 1.5–2 metres (5–6 feet) in front of it to avoid shadows and green reflections.
- Avoid green clothes and shiny accessories.
- Lock your camera's exposure and focus so the backdrop colour stays constant.

Frequently asked questions
Why is some of the green still showing?
Usually the backdrop is unevenly lit. Raise Strength a little or pick the colour again from the darker area.
Why are there holes in my subject?
Strength is too high, or the subject contains colours close to the backdrop — like green clothing. Lower Strength, or use a blue screen next time.
How do I get rid of the green outline?
Increase Spill cleanup. When filming, standing further from the screen and adding light from behind also helps.
Can I remove a background without a green screen?
No. Chroma key works by removing one colour, so you need a plain, evenly lit backdrop — green or blue works best.
Does it work with blue screens?
Yes. Choose the blue preset or use the eyedropper on your blue backdrop.
