How to add a transition in 4 steps
- Add two or more clips. Put your videos or photos on the timeline in order.
- Click the ⇄ button between two clips. The Transition tab opens for that join.
- Choose a style and length. Pick from ten transitions and set 0.2 to 2 seconds. The editor previews the join straight away.
- Apply everywhere (optional). Press Apply to all clips for a consistent style, then export.

Frequently asked questions
Which transition should I use?
Straight cuts work best most of the time. Use a dissolve for time passing or emotional moments, fade to black at the start or end, and zooms or flashes for high-energy edits. Our transitions guide explains each one.
Why did my video get shorter?
Transitions overlap the end of one clip with the start of the next, as in professional editors, so the video shortens by the length of each transition.
Why is the transition shorter than I set?
A transition can't be longer than half of either neighbouring clip. If a clip is short, the editor shortens the transition automatically and tells you.
Does the audio transition too?
Yes. The sound of the two clips crossfades during the transition.
Can I use different transitions between different clips?
Yes. Each join has its own transition, or use Apply to all clips to make them all the same.
